Author's Note: I wrote this response about the mood and tone and difference between the poem and the songs. The songs and poems that I am comparing are Big Yellow Taxi and Field Below.
The author/song writer wanted the tone in Big Yellow Taxi to be sadness or depressed in the lyrics. When you listen to the song it sounds more upbeat and country . When you listen to the song Field Below, it is a lot different then what you think. When you read the lyrics and figure out the tone and mood it is a lot different in the song. When you listen to Field Below, it still seems sad and depressed. When you think about it, the song writers want you to feel sympathetic about the song lyrics, but when they have the singer sing it, it is different. The mood I had when I listened to each of these songs were different. I felt like Field Below was sympathetic, that is how I felt when I read the lyrics also. Then when listening to Big Yellow Taxi, I thought that the mood was also sad and sympathetic, but when listening to the song I thought that it was up beat and different.

Sweatshirt Parody
Author’s Note: This is a parody poem that I wrote that is like “This is Just to Say”. But my parody is about a scene in the “Hunger Games” by: Suzanne Collins.
I have stolen
the sweatshirt
that you were wearing
because I was cold
And you were probably
Going to wear it
the next day to keep warm
Forgive me
It was comfy
And warm
i’m sorry Peeta
It relates to the story the Hunger Games because there was this one night during the games, Katniss had to borrow Peeta's sweatshirt because it was cold out and they both could have frooze to death. Katniss is the one speaking because she is telling this to Peeta. Peeta would then be the audience. The tone is very innocent and guilty. The mood of this parody would be selfishness.

Feelings about Mother to Son
Authors Note: This is a writing response that talks about what I thought about the poem "Mother to Son" By Langston Hughes.
In this writing piece there were many figurative language sentences that Langston Hughes used in his writing. For examples he says this, “Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.” I think that this is an example of a metaphor. This figurative language that he used meant that when this mother was telling this to her son, she wanted him to know that life isn’t easy and that there may be a bump in the road. Lastly I think that the tone the author was trying to tell the reader was serious and reassuring, because the way he wrote this made the mother sound like she wanted to make a point. I think that the mood felt like the mother was showing leadership and was taking charge of the situation.

Character description of Primrose Everdeen
Author's Note: This short response is about one character in the book, The Hunger Games By Suzanne Collins.
Prim is a young twelve year old girl that lives in District Twelve. Prim is short for Primrose, which is her full name. Prim is as little as a mouse and lives with her sister and mother. At the reaping her name got called to go to the Hunger Games. Since it was her first year to have her name in the bucket, it was very unlikely for her to get picked. Primrose was scared to death when her name got chosen out of the bucket. At the reaping she wore a long dress with her hair in braids and was screaming like she was watching a horror film, when her name got called. Katniss, her sister was as brave as a warrior to volunteer for Prim. Prim would not be able to survive by herself in the wild if it wasn’t for Katniss. She can get very happy real easy. For example when Katniss got her, her beautiful new goat, she cried with happiness. Prim is as sweet as the smell of a flower on a spring day, no matter what the circumstance.
Prim is the youngest in her family. Since their father died, it is up to Katniss and Prim to get the food and go to school. Prim can milk her goat and trade the milk for food. Throughout the book you find out that Prim is very loved by her sister. Since Katniss volunteered for tribute, she had mixed emotions about everything. During the games Katniss is always thinking and praying for her.

Stereotyping
Author’s Note: This Non-Fiction essay is about stereotyping in the story Bud Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis. The purpose is to explain how stereotyping really impacts the book.
In the story Bud Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis there are many stereotypes. For example when you read the story Bud’s grammar is not great because he talks with many slang words. When you meet someone for the first time it might not be that acceptable to talk like that. Another stereotype is, being poor, since he is out on his own people look at him and judge him because he can’t afford anything. Although there are many stereo types, people should not stereo type Bud before they get to know him.
The way Bud speaks is just the way the people around him speak. Like when he lived in the Foster Home that’s how all of the children spoke. When Bud went on his journey to find his family, on the way people judged him because of the way he talked. To them he had an accent and poor grammar. To the people that lived in Flint, where Bud lived, that was how everyone talked and they were used to it. Another reason why Bud had different grammar then his family in the Grand Rapids is that Bud never went to school. He couldn’t because he didn’t have money to be able to enroll into a school. Before his mother died, she always read him stories. He remembers the stories by heart, but he still can’t read that well. People shouldn’t stereotype other people because of how they talk.
Another reason why people stereotype Bud is because of his race and the color of his skin. Many people get stereotyped due to that reason. Back in the 1930’s was during the Great Depression, when many people were running out of money, losing their homes, and not being able to afford food and clothes. People like Bud, that were African American and had no place to live were stereotyped a lot. I personally have seen people in big cities that I have visited that may be homeless, I might have thought to myself that maybe he was poor and talked funny. I didn’t really know his story and should not have stereotyped him. When Bud was walking to the Grand Rapids, people would drive by and just stare at him because they were probably thinking something similar to what I would think when I saw someone like Bud.
Furthermore, being poor is another stereotype in the story. Bud was a ten year old boy that was living on his own and didn’t have a job or money. He really only had what he carried around in his suitcase, which included set of clothes and moments that his momma left behind. When you see a young boy on the side of the road walking and carrying a large suit case what do you think of? I would definitely think of a homeless boy that was out living on his own. Bud is not homeless but just by looking at him he does look homeless because he can’t afford much. That is judging someone by what they have and look like and is technically a stereotype.
In conclusion, stereotyping happens a lot, to people all over. People stereotype other people for all of the wrong reasons. It is mean some of the time and it seems like it is just what people do before they think. Stereotyping isn’t about just making fun of someone but it can be about criticizing them and talking about them behind their back. I believe that it is another form of bullying.

Dear Herman E. Calloway
Author’s Note: This creative piece is a letter from character to character in the story Bud Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis. The purpose is to explain about what each character was thinking.
Dear Herman E. Calloway,
I was six years old when my Momma died. When I was younger she would always have flyers of you and your band around the house. I always wanted to ask her why she had them, but I knew she wouldn't tell me. When she died I took them with me and always wondered who the man on the front of the flyer was. I believe that it was you Mr. Calloway. I have read through every word and studied every picture on your flyers and posters and thinking that my momma kept these, was a mystery to me.
After thinking it through I finally realized that maybe she was trying to tell me
something, something about you. Herman I think that my momma was trying to tell me that you know her and that you might know me. I have one question for you. Are you my father?
I never wanted to say this out loud or write it down, but I think that you are my father. I know this might be sound strange, but why else would my momma save these flyers about you? Someday I would really like to meet you Herman E. Calloway. Please write me back.
Sincerely,
Bud-Not-Buddy

Character Description of Prim
Author's Note: Prim is the little sister in the book "The Hunger Games". I am writing a short response about Prim in the book.
Prim is a young twelve year old girl that lives in district twelve. Prim is short for Primrose, which is her full name. Prim is short and lives with her sister and mother. Her father died in a coal mine explosion. At the reaping her name got called to go to the Hunger Games. Since it was her first year to have her name in the bucket, it was very unlikely for her to get picked. At the reaping she wore a long dress with her hair in braids and was screaming in terror when her name got called. Katniss, her sister was so brave to volunteer for Prim. Prim would not be able to survive by herself in the wild.
Prim is the youngest in her family. Then she has her older sister Katniss and her mother. Since their father died, it is up to Katniss and Prim to get the food and got to school. Prim can milk her goat and trade for food that is either better or anything like soap or clothes. Prim and her family don’t have a lot of money. Throughout the book you find out that Prim is very loved by her sister. Since Katniss volunteered for tribute, she had mixed emotions. I think that people will ignore her or talk to her about the Hunger Games and that will make her mad and sad all because her name got chosen. During the games Katiniss is always thinking about Prim and how she loves her and is always thinking and praying for her.
