Author’s Note: I am writing a retelling piece about the book Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper.
All Melody Brooks wants is to be able to speak her mind, but she cannot speak due to a disability which is a roadblock in her life. When she figures out how she can communicate, her life changes completely.
One event that really stood out in this story was when Melody got her talker. It is a machine that talks for her since she is not able to speak on her own. For people that have disabilities and cannot speak, it changes their life when they are finally able to do something that they could never do before.
