Authors Note: I am writing a short response on an important quote in the story, Bud Not Buddy.
There is an important quote in the story Bud Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis. It was said by Bud’s mother while she was still living. "A bud is a flower-to-be. A flower-in-waiting. Waiting for just the right warmth and care to open up. It's a little fist of love waiting to unfold and be seen by the world. And that's you." There are many other things that Bud’s mama told him before she died. I believe that this is the most important quote.
People always judge before they get to know someone well. This quote reminds me of this because it is saying that when you’re ready, you will show everyone who you really are. I remember reading this specific chapter in this story; Bud was at his foster home and the Amos’s thought he was a terrible person just because he was African American and did not have that much clothes or money.
Overall I believe that this quote means a lot to this story and how it relates to Bud a lot as a person. This was considering what he had gone through. Bud’s mother had some pretty useful things to say to Bud, and it is a great thing that he still remembers what she told him. If he didn’t then he wouldn’t be the same person he is now. It shows that Bud loved his mother a lot and knew enough to take her words and use them to shape his life for the better. Without that instinct, I fear that Bud would not have fared so well.
