Thank You Ma'am By Langston Hughes

Authors Note: This short response is about a quote that I liked when reading the short story "Thank You Ma'am."

I feel that there is a quote that really stood out to me while reading this short story. "You ought to be my son. I would teach you right from wrong. Least I can do right now is to wash your face. Are you hungry?" I think that this is a good quote because it shows that Mrs. Jones actually does care for him even though he tried to steal her pocketbook. Mrs. Jones seems like she can relate to the boy because she brings him to her house and lets in a complete stranger. She feeds him dinner and when the boy says that there is no one home at his house, Mrs. Jones takes him to her house. She does teach him right from wrong because Roger will always remember what the women said to him that night.

Another quote that stood out to me was when Mrs. Jones took Roger to her to her house. This is what Mrs. Jones said to Roger after she sent him out the door, "Goodnight!" Behave yourself, boy!" When Mrs. Jones said this to him I was thinking that Roger probably didn’t know what to say. If I were in his situation, I would not be able to speak. I would be wordless.

In conclusion, quotes in stories or books can really mean a lot to a person or book. Some books that a really famous are famous for their quotes.
